Times must be tough if the Toronto Star is willing to turn on its greatest lovers - public school teachers and their union.
On Sunday October 2, the Toronto Star reported on its front page that a 40-year old married Toronto-based teacher, after being suspended for allegedly sending sexually explicit text messages to his female students and "spooning" (ie laying in a bed next to them in close contact, back to front) them on a bed in a motel room during a school trip, is now allowed to teach again.
The teacher is considered rehabilitated, in part because he took a course approved by the teacher's union and Toronto District School Board, on how to act appropriately.
Thank goodness, and this is why we need unions.
Had this poor fellow (yes, he is the victim here) been fool-hardy enough to work in the (lower paying, no job security, performance-based and merit-earned) private sector (and assuming all allegations to be true), he surely would have been fired without recourse.
Alas, he would have been unemployed, and had to face hardship.
But thankfully in Ontario, we don't let crazy things like that happen.
Where would our children be then? Young impressionable teenage women need more involvement with older married men, and thankfully our nation's unions are there to make sure it happens.
Fathers - unleash your daughters in the skimpiest of school uniforms for now they have guidance in a liberal bastion of underachievement. This is your clarion call.
It's a good thing no right wing fringe lunatic racist tea party crack pot conservative is in charge. Can you imagine? This man might have lost his job, his security, and his feeling of self-worth, all of which he has an unrestricted entitlement to.
Daughters rest easy. He's back, and he's there for you. Send him a text - he'll appreciate it.
If the allegations are not true, this teacher had better dump this union, because then they are not doing a very good job of defending his reputation and livelihood.
Ontario. Yours To Discover.
